General

Do the islands come fully assembled?

Each of the sections comes assembled. When it arrives you will need to roll the sections into position and attach them with the included hardware, then attach the gas line from the grill unit to the side burner. If there is a sink or refrigerator, the faucet will need to be attached and the fridge handle screwed on. Any corner modules will require some light assembly.

What are the electrical requirements for the entire island?

You will need a separate outlet for each of the following, if included in your model: grill lights/knobs LED, rotisserie, fridge(s). They have 4 foot cords which are attached to the units that they power. A 15 amp circuit is sufficient, however if you are having one installed, you may want to consider going with 20 amps to be able to handle any other other items with a greater amperage need that you might want to use. Mont Alpi recommends using a GFI outlet.

Can cabinets be purchased without the countertops?

No, cabinets are not sold without the countertops. However, the counters are attached to the frame of each unit with screws and can be unscrewed and removed if desired.

If I have natural gas, can the propane tank cabinet under the left burner be used for storage instead?

Yes, the space can be used for storage. Many people like to use the pull-out for a trash can.

Is there a trash cabinet module?

No, Mont Alpi does not make a trash cabinet. However, if you are using natural gas, the area for a propane tank under the left side burner can be repurposed for a trash bin.

Is there a pizza oven module?

No, Mont Alpi does not make a modular pizza oven, but there is a countertop model you can purchase here, and a side burner pizza oven here.

Is there a griddle available to be used in place of the grates?

Yes, the MAGR griddle plate can be used in place of one of the sections of grate on any Mont Alpi grill. It can be purchased here.

What are the dimensions of each unit?

All modules (except corners) have a depth of 23 inches. The width and height of each unit are as follows:

  • 805 Grill Cabinet: 44” x 35” (47” to top of closed hood)
  • 400 Grill Cabinet: 32” x 35” (47” to top of closed hood)
  • Beverage Center: 38” x 35” (without faucet)
  • Kegerator: 48” x 41”
  • Kamado Cabinet: 33” x 35”
  • Drawer Cabinet: 25” x 35”
  • Storage Cabinet: 25” x 35”
  • Right End Storage Cabinet: 25” x 35”

Grill & Gas Connection

What is involved in converting to natural gas?

The islands come with the tool needed to convert it. You will use it to remove the propane jet from each burner. The natural gas one is left in place. Then you will need a natural gas regulator and hose. The regulator and hose can be purchased locally, or from us here. The option to add it is also on all the island listings.

Are there any instructions for the gas conversion kit?

The video below demonstrates the process of converting the burners.

Does the side burner work with natural gas?

Yes, the side burner works with natural gas, but you will need to convert it along with the grill burners when you receive it.

Is there just one gas connection for the grill and the side burner unit?

Yes, you just need one connection. It splits internally to go to the grill and side burner.

What is the gas line power requirement?

For 400 (4-burner) models, you will need 80,000 BTU, and for the 805 (6-burner) models it is 120,000 BTU. It is advised to size up for any expansions or gas appliances you may want in the future.

Can the grill be used with charcoal?

Mont Alpi grills do not have full duel fuel capability. However, they make a charcoal tray as an accessory. It is a self-contained tray that replaces the sear plates and can be filled with wood chips, wood chunks or charcoal, using the gas burner as a lighting method. You can purchase this as an add-on, or from the product page here.

Can the grill be used indoors with proper venting?

No, Mont Alpi states in the product manual warnings: "For Outdoor Use Only".

Island Placement & Covering

What kind of ground surface is recommended for Mont Alpi islands?

Because it sits on wheels and levelers, some sort of hard surface is ideal. Just sitting on grass or dirt is not advisable. Deck, paved, or concrete slab works best, however we do have some installations that put concrete blocks under each wheel. Because it is on wheels, there will be enough room for drainage underneath. The wheel/leveler assemblies are 3 1/2 inches high, but only about an 1 1/2 is actually visible.

How do Mont Alpi islands hold up in extreme temperatures?

They will hold up very well in both high heat and deep cold. They are a high quality steel and do well in any environment. Over winter, it is best to keep the island covered until you’re ready to use it again, and if you see the cover pushing up too much in the wind you can use some weights to hold it down.

Can the island be set flush against a wall?

Mont Alpi’s user manual says that the grill should be 36 inches away from combustible materials. Non-combustible materials such as brick, stucco, or stone will still need 5 inches clearance for the hood to open, electrical access, and any water or drainage you may need.

Does the island need to be in a covered space?

Mont Alpi Islands can be in an uncovered area, but you will need to use the cover. A full island cover comes included with the Deluxe and Black Stainless models, and may be purchased as an add-on for the Classic models.

Does the island cover enclose the entire island?

Yes, the cover comes in modular pieces that zip together to cover your entire island, including parts like faucets and taps.

Can I get the cover in another color?

Unfortunately, Mont Alpi stopped making the cover in gray early in 2024. If you wish for a different color, you may want to consider having a custom cover made by a company like Covers and All.

Can the island be leveled on wheels so I can roll it to another place nearby?

Yes, the wheel assemblies for each section have levelers attached so that you can level the island with the wheels in place. If you wish to move it, you would just raise the levelers and then roll it with the wheels.

Note that if you have a beverage center with a plumbed drain, the island would need to remain fixed.

Can the wheels be removed to make the island stationary?

Yes, the wheels can be removed. But the levelers are part of the wheel assembly, so you would be removing them as well. When on the wheels, the levelers are what locks the unit in place.

Customizing Layouts

I would like to reverse my layout. Can units be put to the left of the grill and side burner instead of the right?

Yes, however this will require drilling holes for the attachment hardware because the burner cabinet is a finished left end unit. This works best with the Black Stainless and Classic models, but is still possible with the Deluxe, although it will leave you with an unfinished side on the left end as the waterfall sides are not movable. Likewise if you are moving a right end fridge or right end storage cabinet to the left side. Both of these right end units would also need attachment holes drilled so that they can connect with other units. If you would like to reverse or change the layout, please call or email us and we can tell you the specific limitations.

Can units be placed between the grill and the burner module?

It depends. There is just enough gas and ignitor line to place a corner cabinet between the grill and burner cabinets. A storage cabinet can be placed there, but would need the lines extended by a professional and openings created for the lines to pass through. Running gas through the other units (beverage center, kegerator, fridge, kamado, drawer) is not advised.

If you are using natural gas and do not need the side burner, for complete freedom with units between the burner module and the grill it is possible to remove the gas line to the side burner - however a few critical adjustments would need to be made. A new access hole must be cut for the grill’s gas line, and the side burner control knob and gas line on the main grill unit must be professionally capped off for safety.

Can the left side burner cabinet be moved to the right of the grill?

No, the gas and electrical openings between the burner cabinet and the grill are designed for the left side.

Can I get an island with a storage cabinet instead of the side burner on the left side?

No, all of the Mont Alpi Deluxe, Black Stainless, and Classic series islands come with the burner. The Artwood series does not have a burner, however they are not modular and only come linear with a grill and fridge. You can find them here.

Can the right side storage cabinet of a 805/400 model be omitted?

You cannot purchase a modular island without either a right end storage cabinet or fridge cabinet on the right side, however you don’t have to attach it. Just be aware that on a model without any other units on the right, the exposed side of the grill would show vent holes. Also, if you are purchasing a deluxe model, it would no longer have a white waterfall side on the right. The waterfall side is not movable.

The omitted module could still be used as a standalone unit elsewhere in your outdoor kitchen as it has its own wheels and levelers.

Can units be bought separately in the future to add on?

Yes. Mont Alpi Deluxe, Black Stainless, and Classic islands are expandable. You would just unscrew the connecting hardware and insert the new section. Only the grill, the burner cabinet, and the right end storage cabinet cannot be purchased individually for expansion. All other modules, including the regular storage cabinet (fits between modules), can be added later.

Fridges & Beverage Centers

Does the beverage center sink come with the faucet?

Yes, it comes with a faucet for cold water only.

Can I use hot and cold water with the sink?

Not with the included faucet, it uses a hose connection for cold only. If you wish to use hot and cold, you will need to replace it with a faucet that can handle both and then have it plumbed.

Does the faucet need to be connected to plumbing?

The faucet comes with a standard hose connection for cold water. If you would like hot and cold, you would need to purchase a faucet that could handle both and then have it plumbed in. If you do use a hose, make sure to use a potable water hose safe for cooking and drinking, as a standard garden hose can leech unsafe metals and chemicals into the water.

Can a bucket be used for the sink drain?

Yes, the drain is a 2 inch hose that can either drain into a 5 gallon bucket in the cabinet beneath the sink for manual emptying, or connect to a plumbed drain line if you prefer.

Can I buy the beverage center without a sink?

No, there is no version of the beverage center without a sink. However, you can achieve a similar look by purchasing a model with a fridge and a storage cabinet and then placing them next to each other. Look for model codes that include “FC” and either “XL” or the option to purchase a storage cabinet add-on. A fridge cabinet can also be purchased separately and added onto a model without one if needed. Note that the fridge cabinet only exists as an end unit with a finished right end, so this setup would need to be at the far right of your island unless you drill attachment holes.

How long is the refrigerator’s power cord?

It is approximately 4 feet long, and comes out of an opening in the lower back of the cabinet.

Is it safe to leave the refrigerator outside in winter?

Yes, however it should be turned off in temperatures below freezing. Remove anything inside it, clean the interior, and thoroughly dry and air out to prevent mildew. You can also place a freezer safe bowl of baking soda inside to help eliminate any odors or moisture until spring.

Can the fridge remain on while the cover is on?

Yes. There is enough venting underneath to prevent overheating.

Black Stainless Steel & Artwood Islands

Is there a kegerator in black stainless steel?

No, the kegerator is not available in black stainless steel. You can, however, purchase a regular stainless steel kegerator for your black stainless series island. It would fit easily between modules to the right of the grill with a matching countertop, only the 4 sides would be a different color of steel.

Is there a version of the black stainless islands with waterfall sides?

No, the black stainless steel models do not have an option for waterfall sides. Mont Alpi only makes this series with regular countertops.

How does the black stainless steel finish hold up over time compared to regular stainless?

Mont Alpi’s black stainless steel islands are made with a process that changes the color of the steel. Since no separate finish is applied, it is just as durable as the classic stainless and cannot peel or chip.

Can modules be added to an Artwood island?

No, the Artwood series is not modular. If you want modules such as a beverage center, kegerator, or extra storage, you can purchase these separately. But due to the oversized countertop on the Artwood models, extra units cannot be connected and would need to remain separate. They would also be in stainless steel rather than the Artwood style. How do I get a side burner for an Artwood island?

Unfortunately, there is no side burner available for the Artwood series islands. These come only as part of one of the Deluxe, Black Stainless, or Classic series islands and cannot be purchased individually.
